S.T.A.R. Film Discussion Series (Racial Equity/Social Justice)
Join student leaders from the YVC Stand Together Against Racism youth initiative to discuss thought-provoking films about race. Watch the movie (or read the book) prior to the virtual discussion. Students and adults are welcome to join us! Discussions are held via zoom except when noted.
October 29, 2024 - "Dreamgirls" - A story that follows the history and evolution of American R&B music during the 1960s and 1970s through the eyes of a Detroit girl group known as "The Dreams" and their manipulative record executive. Discussion held via zoom.
December 10, 2024 - "Cool Runnings" - An underdog sports movie based on the Jamaican bobsled team's appearance in the 1988 Olympic Games. This will be an in-person movie viewing followed by discussion from 5:30 - 8:30 PM. We encourage attendees to bring food to share.
